Post Traumatic Trek Disorder

I need to vent for a bit. I know i need to be unattached from these little things, but please humor me for a minute.

I’m convinced… all of Nepal’s Internet Cafes share the same 56kb modem line. I kid you not.

I just came back from a 9-day trek.
Before that I was in a city that charged for uploading by the MB.
There are power outtages in Kathmandu every hour.
Space is running out on my 4gb camera card.
I have not uploaded more than 3 photos in the last 30 days…. and I’m mad frustrated.

Facing the possibility of staying in Nepal for a few more months, I am seriously hurting for some upload crack. I have hundreds of photos plus a video that I want to share… I feel like I’m sucking a thick milkshake through an infinitely small straw, and its giving me the worst ice-cream headache ever.

Who wants to volunteer (except paul)? I’ll fedex you a DVD with complete instructions.. you spend 2-3 hours and upload the lot to my flickr and youtube accounts? How ’bout it?

I wanna do it! I wanna do it!

  • I love the enthsiasm! Are you sure you know what you are getting yourself into?

By the way… I’m in Kathmandu… Your entire generation from Israel is here and they told me to say “Hi!”

  • We have an office in Delhi, India and I know the IT folks there very well.
They will be happy to upload it for you.
I am thinking it may be cheaper (and faster) to fedex to India from Nepal than to US.

  • Is this beyond the capabilities of over 30 people?
If not I can do it.

  • where too after nepal?

  • Thanks for all the responses to assist me Shanee, Tarun, & JK… I think I’ve solved my problem for now.

I’ve been trying to upload images at full resolution - which is about 6-7 MB per image. Instead I’ve surrendered to uploading only 800×600 images which are fine for the web but not for archiving.

This will take care of my problem in the short term, and I can upload/replace the images I want to archive next time I am in India.

I really appreciate your volunteering, tho.

(Tarun… I really want to stop by your office in Delhi next time I’m there. I’ll let you know when the time comes.)

  • Oh’ Drunk One….

Not sure about after Nepal. I’ve changed my pace a bit and it looks like I will be staying here for at least another month or two. (More about this in an upcoming post)
