If you’re a model skip this story now and click here.

Actually I NEVER do this. This blog is usually about me me and me with a dash of me. Still, I am having such a joyful experience using this new RSS reader for OS X.. that I want to share it with you.

Times - RSS Reader for OS X

Choosing an RSS reader is like deciding on a politician.
You pick the one that sucks the least.

I’ve been on iGoogle for a while. I’ve tried pageflakes, google reader, netvibes, newsblahblah and some other ones with worse names.

Times does exactly what I’ve always wanted. Reading RSS feeds in a beautiful, organized, intuitive newspaper-like interface… outside of the browser.

Times rocks

Groups of feeds are organized into “pages.” Each page has a nice layout that leads the eye from the latest story down the list. If there is an image in the post Times will add it to the headline beautifully. In my case I created a page for geeky web stuff a page for design inspiration and a page for world news.

The front page can be peeled back to show the details, images, and comments of each post. Flipping back and forth between the front page and the post detail is quick and painless.

I could go on and on… Times is an impressive application.

There are more than a handful of features that I’d like to see in 2.0 – but I’ll spare you the details.. which I’ve emailed to the programmer. He hasn’t responded yet, probably too busy making this kick-ass app. If he doesn’t hit me up soon I’ll make sure he never works in this town again! C’mon man… Zack from Dipity responded to me in, like, 30 seconds. (check them out too… they are also fulfilling one of my UI dreams)

oh, yeah… back to Times. Download it. Try it. If you are still on a PC (ahem! to all my friends over 50).. you don’t know what you are missing.

peace out.

Explanation for Models

  • That myspace beauty blog you read… that is published as RSS, or Really Simple Syndication
  • Actually.. most blogs, news websites, youtube channels… all have RSS feeds
  • Going to the same 10 websites every day is hard work… and bad for your nails.
  • What if you want to read all these things in the same place?
  • People have been trying to solve this problem for years… since 2004 they’ve been making RSS readers.
  • Times, is a really really ridiculously good looking way to read all of these things in the same place.
  • Times matches your Macbook Air and pretty much any shoes you are wearing.
  • Using Times makes you geeky.. but a very cool version of geeky. Like that guy from that movie.

Sweet! Except it crashes at almost every turn. Not ready to plunk down $30 just yet. But I have high hopes.

  • The latest version crashes a lot less. Used to crash every minute.. now down to once a week for me.

  • Oooooooooooh. NOW I get it.

    Kinda.

Do you mean that guy from that movie with the thing on his whatsit?

I never saw it. It was subtitled.

dagnamit i was just experimenting with readers so that i could tap into various gmail/socnet accounts at work (i think you know why…) plus all my rss baggage… and had decided on netvibes over igoog… and i see this. BUT leopard only? PANTS! my 12 powerbook at home would freak out if i tried to put leopard on it. oh yeah, plus as a mac fanboy i gotta say, i’m not really a huge fan of leopard on my MB pro at work. feels like… er.. a PC.. nooooooo

What do you think?
