Bakery - my new unit of measure.

paris day 1
Been here for 24 hours.
12 spent sleeping off jet lag.
5 spent walking around and
eating yummy foods.
7… no clue where they went.

There is a bakery every 10 meters. I think I will use bakery as my unit measure from now on. There’s a coffee shop every 2 bakeries. There is also a butcher every 4 bakeries. Every 5 bakeries or so… there is an intersection with cars. The cars are usually 1/4 to 1/2 bakery in size.

Still a bit disoriented… I fumbled out of Tuhin’s apartment and walked around the 19th Arrondissement for a few hours. There’s a beautiful little park here called Parc des Buttes Chaumont. It is kind-of a mini central park with sprawling hillside lawns littered with couples, families, and friends enjoying the sun. In the middle of the park is a small lake-ish thing with a fortress-esque rock that is topped by a little temple overlooking the city. There is a waterfall and stream that run through and around the rocks. The water trickles down steps where kids take off their shoes and play in the water.

Rooftop gardens and windowsill planers overflow with life. Paris is very green right now. I walk around holding back the urge to eat everything in sight.

I am unspeakably envious, having cancelled my July visit.

Don’t miss rue Montorgeuil (near les Halles) for double-density boulangeries et boucheries.

  • Oh to live in a place where distance is measured in coffee shops and bakeries, instead of tags and broken glass
